Chinese plate ceiling Castle Heeswijk

Tucked away in the wooded Brabant countryside between ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Eindhoven lies Castle Heeswijk, a former moated castle from the 11th century. Up to 1974, Castle Heeswijk possessed a unique interior within The Netherlands: a tower room with lacquer panels and doors and a ceiling laid in with Chinese porcelain. A plate ceiling existing in this original form was absolutely unique in Dutch interior.

From the period of dismantling the ceiling, only two images have been noted. My imitation-restoration derives from these two images of the plate ceiling.

By using modern means the ceiling is reconstructed.
